Stronger school communities about climate change was the focus of training organised by the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation in partnership with the ESMABAMA Association. Held at Mapangara Primary School in Machanga District, the initiative aimed to revitalise the school risk and disaster management committee and strengthen the school community’s capacity to respond effectively to climate-related emergencies. 32 people participated in the training, including pupils, teachers and community members.
During the training, they developed an emergency action plan to address Machanga District’s recurring vulnerability to climate change, with particular emphasis on the floods that frequently affect the area.
Partnership builds more resilient and safer communities
The training was led by João Nelson, Emergency Focal Point at the Sofala Provincial Directorate of Education; Muchawara Sandaca, Emergency Focal Point at the Machanga District Youth and Technology Service; and Benildo da Rocha, a first aid trainer from the Mozambique Red Cross.
Through this collaboration, the partners aim to ensure that the school community can respond quickly, effectively and in an organised manner during disasters, creating a safer and more resilient learning environment for everyone.
Through initiatives such as this, ESMABAMA and its partners remain committed to building communities that are better prepared to face the impacts of climate change while protecting the future of children and local families.
