Health achievements

Some figures that reflect the health achievements in the work carried out by ESMABAMA:

3 Health Centres (Barada, Estaquinha, Mangunde) and a Health Post in Machanga;

90,000 annual consultations;

3 ambulances for transportation to healthcare in rural areas, one for each Health Centre;

65 health activists - who travel by bicycle and on foot in vulnerable communities to promote health awareness in rural areas;

0% vertical HIV transmission since 2016 (from mother to baby);

21,473 malaria cases registered in the 3 health centres managed by ESMABAMA in 2020 (14,916 in Mangunde, 11,051 in Estaquinha and 4,537 in Barada); the number of malaria cases in 2021 was 25,843 (16,463 in Mangunde, 8,865 in Estaquinha, 7,359 in Barada);

Estaquinha recorded a 24.66% reduction in malaria cases from 2020 to 2021; whereas in Mangunde cases increased by 9.40% and in Barada they increased by 38.35%;

98% Success in taking antiretroviral drugs HIV, few drop-outs, is one of the greatest health achievements;

Average of 1,430 HIV/ AIDS patients followed up;

1,800 births per year in the 3 maternities;

Decrease in the number of crocodile attacks with the increase in drinking water points (before, when people went to fetch water from the rivers, they were more vulnerable to attacks);

53 water holes installed by ESMABAMA in the 4 development centres and surrounding communities: 10 in Machanga, 12 in Mangunde, 16 in Barada and 15 in Estaquinha; a total of 8,890 estimated consumers;

7 Km travelled by some communities to access a borehole installed by ESMABAMA. With ESMABAMA's work, improved access to water sanitation and hygiene was achieved, and the distance to access a water point has been greatly reduced. ESMABAMA has installed boreholes 70 km from a development center, for example, in Machanga.
