Fire at Estaquinha's Boarding School
| |
Last week, we were taken by surprise when a fire broke out in one of the blocks of the boarding school. The quick response from the guards and teachers, armed with water buckets, prevented the fire from spreading to other blocks. However, the ceiling of the affected block was completely destroyed. Now, with the rainy season upon us, there is a growing concern that the damage may worsen. Fortunately, since the students were still on holiday, the worst was avoided. The Mozambican school year begins on the 1st of February, and our primary concern now is the rebuilding of this damaged block. We appreciate any support or assistance during this challenging time.

Cholera outbreaks and Health activists
| |
Cholera outbreaks have been registered in the neighbouring countries and within Mozambique itself. The most affected Provinces are Nampula, Cabo Delgado, Tete, Zambézia, and Sofala with over 10.400 cases reported by the Ministry of Health. As of now, no cases have been reported in our regions of activity. Nonetheless, health activists, supported by Caritas Germany and project COHEMO (backed by Caritas Austria), have been conducting crucial sensitization campaigns among rural communities.
